15MAR05 trip York, Katz & Rutenberg
Yari awards the Armando Santo his PMA Jet Boat hat, as an "official" cayuco captain for our company.
We all gingerly board the smaller cayuco, which is just a bit more tipsy than the larger ones!
Ready for the crocs in the pond! No one wanted a life jacket! Brave souls be we!
The water pipe across the entry into the croc lagoon is an interesting obstacle.
Steadily heading into the lagoon, it was obviously shallow waters. Who asked "Do the crocs leap into the boat?" This might
have been a day to test that one!
This may have been a small one. But, who wants to wrestle this guys in these waters and mud. Besides, where's Moma and
Papa Crocs? These smaller ones were not the ones making those mud trails we saw!
This is all there is. Life is simple, not so clean, no electricity, no schedules to meet. But, fishing, hunting, gathering and
gardening make up a lot of their lives, albeit, not necessarily all of these activities.
Yari brought some flexible pencils for the children going to school, up river a bit. She was demonstrating how the pencils
may be sharpened.
This elder of this small group of 3 families, was quite proud to display his wife's handicraft!
She wasn't interested in selling the item she was working on, but he was trying to get her to show off another item, which
was in process.
This quite large Chacara bag, was just what Yari was looking for! It was still in need of the handle, and they all agreed to
pick it up on the next trip in two days.
What is it about a gentle ride up a river that makes us relax and nap?
Heading to Chiriqui Grande for the last leg across the Continental Divide and Boquete. Seas were calm and we made good
time to the old ferry dock.
